This week, our article “A new functional classification based on frailty and disability stratifies the risk for mortality among older adults: the FRADEA study” has been published on the website of the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association. In this article, we describe the validation of a new functional classification, covering the full range of the functional continuum. This new classification is based on ADL, IADL and frailty. When using IADL and frailty categories, the ADL independent group can be characterized more precisely, in relation to mortality. See the publication for more information.

This study was done in collaboration with researchers from Albacete, Valencia and Getafe in Spain, and made use of data from the “Frailty and Dependence in Albacete” (FRADEA) study.
